Download Festival is held every June in Donington Park, Leicestershire, UK. It has been running since 2003 although it’s origin comes from the Monsters of Rock Festivals that were held on the same site between 1980 and 1996.
In an attempt to cater for all, Download features a wide range of Rock & Metal genres and manages to attract some of the biggest touring metal bands as headliners. They also host NXT UK Professional Wrestling Competitions during the weekend.

The daily capacity at Download is 110,000. It is the biggest Metal Festival in the UK and one of the biggest in Europe. The attendance is made up of a mixture of day ticket and weekend ticket holders. From my experience, Friday’s are usually the least attended days and Sundays the busiest.

5 Night Standard Camping and Festival Tickets are available, costing £tbc

Download Festival Stages and Line Up
There are 4 stages at Download. Because it is such a big festival, the stages are quite a distance apart so you need to plan your days wisely to avoid doing lots of unnecessary walking.
The Main Stage is where the headliners and many of the bigger named bands will appear over the weekend.
The Second Stage (Zippo Encore Stage) is also a decent size and located in a different part of the arena, compared to many big festivals where the two main stages are side by side.
The 3rd (Avalanche) & 4th (Dogtooth) Stages are in tents within the arena and host some of the lesser established bands.
Download 2021 Headliners will be TBC
Tip! There will be band clashes across the stages. Use Clashfinder to help plan your itinerary. Note that Clashfinder initially is just a guide and will only become accurate once official stage times have been announced.
Camping at Download Festival
There are 6 campsites for standard camping. All identifiable by being named with a different colour. They are vast campsites with lots of room to pitch tents. They are however quite a distance from the arena so be prepared for a fairly long walk each day back and forth and try to take everything you need for the day as popping back to your tent isn’t as straight forward as at smaller festivals.
There are also campsites for RIP ticket holders and camper vans and caravans. These are located quite close to the main arena.
Tip! If you plan to do some cooking, you will unlikely be allowed stoves with flames and gas canisters. Use a Solid Fuel Stove instead.
Tip! The Car Park is a long walk from the camping sites so a Festival Trolley could turn out to be a good investment for transporting all your heavy gear and drink.
Tip! A Camping Chair is recommended when camping so you have somewhere to sit in the mornings and evenings before/after the bands and is essential if the ground is wet.
